Policy

Under Section 9 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 (the Act) as a dog owner you must take such steps as are reasonable in all the circumstances to ensure that the needs of an animal for which you are responsible are met.

At Love Phodography we believe that as a responsible Dog Photographer, we also need to protect the Welfare of the Dogs that come into our business!

My promise to you... Your dog will be treated with as much care, love and attention as my own dog "Mash" throughout your photo experience!

Provide a Positive Experience

You'll want to know your

Dog is in Safe Hands

We all know that your Dog Photographer loves dogs - well you'd expect them to wouldn't you? As a dog mum myself I want to know more about the experiences my dog will have, Will he be happy? Will he be told off if he doesn't understand what is required? Will he be safe and free from harm? Will the experience enrich his life or cause him worry?

All the questions and more are the reason behind us creating this Dog Welfare policy so you are confident and comfortable choosing Love Phodography to capture your dog living their best life.

Safe Environment

Whether your photo session is taking place in our dog friendly studio or out and about on location, every step has been taken to ensure the environment is safe for your dog to have a comfortable and rewarding experience.

The studio is situated in a quite residential area in a secure, enclosed garden so as soon as you come through the gate you know your dog is safe. There's lots of doggy smells in the garden so your dog will have time to explore and leave their own calling card before heading into the studio.

When we're photographing in a location that's new to me I'll endeavour to always check the area out prior to your session to carry out a risk assessment, I'll be making sure we're away from roads and that there are no hazards that can cause injury to your dog/s.

Healthy Treats

I only ever use the treat reward based training system to ask your dog to do something and ask that you do the same. Prior to your session we'll have discussed whether your dog has any dietary requirements or allergies and what motivates them the most.

If your dog is like my dachshund they'll be highly motivated by high value treats, things like sausage and cheese. These are clearly not the most healthy of foods so their use will be limited but I always have plenty of delicious healthy treats that have no artificial colours, flavours or ingredients.

If your dog is motivated by something other than food, such as a toy of some kind I'll ask that you bring their toy with you and I'll put it in my bag to use when appropriate

Individual Attention

Whether you're bringing one dog of 5 each of your dogs will be given individual attention and equal attention to ensure each and every one of them are happy and safe. Like humans, dogs don't necessarily like their personal space being invaded by others so each and every situation will be assessed for signals that your dog's is/are uncomfortable.

If your dog is in season it will probably be best to reschedule the session so they're not being bothered by other dogs if we're out on location. If you've booked a studio session and your dog comes into season we'll also re-arrange, whilst my dog is never left loose to wander around whilst you and your dog are here he can be a right rat-bag when he's been in the vicinity of a nice smelling girl!

Awareness of Dog Behaviour

All dogs want to do is please humans and may even go as far as to do things they're not comfortable to get the result they think we want. These tiny stress signals and signs that your dog isn't 100% happy can be really hard to notice unless you're looking for them.

I have a keen interest in Dog behaviour and achieved a Distinction in Canine Behaviour Training Diploma as well as assisting with puppy classes on a weekly basis to ensure my knowledge and understanding is always current so your dog is never put into a position where they may be stressed or worried.

Provide a Positive Experience

From your carefully curated information pack through to your dog's experience on the photoshoot, we have your dog's health and wellbeing at the centre of our minds. The studio and the session is set up to ensure your dogs has a positive experience from start to finish,

There is never any pressure to perform and if your dog is unable to sit, stay we can always use a little photoshop jiggery pokery to make it look like they can so the actual experience remains calm and fun for them.
